DISTURBING SIGHT



This is a recent picture of once "squeaky clean, role model" Miley Cyrus showing her new tatoo of a symbol supporting gay marriage. This engraving is especially disturbing considering Miley is a professing Christian and has even been baptized by her former Southern Baptist church in Tennessee.

Any Christian should know that this is an unbiblical stagement and a skewed understanding of God's character. Yes, God is love, and that love was shown to us primarily by His sending of Jesus to atone for our sins so we can have everlasting life with Him (1 John 4:10). However, God's love does not mean Him tolerating evil deeds and not punishing the guilty for their crimes, otherwise He would be a corrupt Judge on Judgment Day. God loves His eternal justice, and He will make sure that murders, rapists, liars, thieves, and all lawbreakers receive their due justice.

As much I would prefer not to say this blatantly, homosexuality is a trangression of God's law, as much as incest, bestiality, and fornication is. Romans 2:26 describes the degrading nature of homosexuality: "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."

1 Cor 6:9 also states the destiny of unrepentant practicers of homosexuality in this passage, "Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effiminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous...will inherit the kingdom of heaven."

Finally, Leviticus 20:13 declares homosexuality as an "abomination before the Lord", which reveals God's black-and-white thoughts on this subject matter.

Yes, we as humans cannot be the ones to judge another's eternal destiny, yet God has already cast judgment on homosexuals (or any sinners for that matter) who willingly die as guilty lawbreakers and do not come to Christ for vindication (John 3:18, 1 Cor 6:9, Rev 21:8). We as ambassadors of Jesus are obligated to warn others of this reality so they may turn from their sin and be saved. This act is not harsh or unwarranted on our part, but extremely truthful and merciful if done with a heart of compassion.

I posted this article simply to elicit your prayers for Miley Cyrus. It is very possible that she is not even saved. Matthew 7:16 says that you can tell a regenerated, soundly saved Christians from an apostate (or those who secretly reject the faith) by the fruits they bear. Since the Holy Spirit is not convicting Miley of things that are pleasing and abominable before the Lord, it's possible she may not even have the Holy Spirit indwelling her, and that she simply went through the motions in her church without ever experiencing true saving faith that comes through repentance and surrender to the lordship of Christ.

Her support of homosexuality is not the first troubling sign of her faith, as she had in the last fews year participated in things that are anti-Christian simply because she "didn't want to be a role model for kid's anymore and wanted to experiment with life." In other words, she no longer wanted to be holy, but wanted to live out the desires of her sinful heart. Is this really a desire that comes from the Holy Spirit? I'm not advocating perfection of character here, since we are all sinners by nature. But there is a unquestionable biblical warrant for direction, which the Holy Spirit gives despite the temptations of the flesh. As Dr. John MacArthur has stated, it's not about the perfection, but the direction of the life.

Sadly, there are many "Christians" in Hollywood that are in Miley's category. It's only a matter of time before their fruits show, and many of them will even abandon the faith, giving their lives over to sexual immorality, greed, false religions, and other ungodly ways.

Let us pray for Miley's salvation and sanctification. Let us pray for all the stars in Hollywood who profess Christ's name.
